Few lawyers have won so many battles for Christian schools, churches, resisting bank foreclosures – all, plus more, were cases David Mitchell took on. The internationally-watched Noah’s Ark case brought by a sceptic was one of his great victories. A graduate of the Universities of Tasmania, Oxford, Essex and Strasbourg, Dr Mitchell served British, African and Australian governments. He was more qualified than probably any other magistrate, judge or attorney-general in Australia, yet he never sought prominence. His defence at the United Nations of Lesotho (Africa) in its dispute with South Africa won $113million for this tiny state. Retiring from public service at 45, he became a minister and served as church planter, pastor and procurator. Continuing to use his legal skills in Christ’s service – he did so, amazingly neither seeking or accepting remuneration for his services. Other lawyers also offer their counsel pro bono at times, but none ever like David Charles Mitchell. $18.95 - Posted, $21.00 Buy this book and collect a FREE copy of The Blessedness of Death |
This tells of my more than 60 years of ministry and travels as a minister of the Gospel. An unusual life in some ways, compared with other ministers. Beginning in the Methodist Church Victoria, I resigned after some years to serve a number of independent churches in Victoria, WA., and Sydney. In 1993, I joined the Presbyterian Church of Australia and have continued in that relation. Officially listed as retired in 2004, some have described me as re-tyred, or even recycled! Since retirement in 2004 I have been privileged to minister in Kenya, Singapore, Cyprus and Beijing. In such areas I have seen the Christian faith displayed with more zeal and hunger than in our Western society. The zeal for God's Word and work, puts Christianity in the West in the shade! One observation deserving consideration is that my experience of church government tells me that no form of polity is more Biblical or necessarily more efficient than another. However for me, a self-governing church has proven to be the best to minister in. Historically such churches are generally larger and more vibrant in evangelistic effect and public interaction.

From birth in England to life in South Africa; from being a zealous atheist to a near fatal crisis in a goldmine explosion; from disinterest in education to a voracious appetite for learning resulting in ten doctorates (and other degrees); from pastoring in South Africa to professional work in the USA and from USA to Australia where for 30 years he taught at the Presbyterian Church of Queensland Theological Hall and as a barrister (one of his many accomplishments) won some significant battles for the Church: these describe significant events in the life of an amazing mind, a humble heart, a loving husband and father, a powerful preacher, a multi-gifted man, theologian, author, artist, poet, but one who was beloved by all who knew that within his rugged exterior lay a heart that laboured for Christ and His Kingdom.
Rare is the man who meets his father’s murderer. But Nigel Lee was one such man. How he met his father’s killer and led him to Christ is told here; and other experiences which colour the life of this man of God. With testimony from those who knew him and worked with him over the years, the author presents an unauthorised record of his subject’s life and ministry. 212 pages. When I published my second book in 2009 I was rather surprised at how many people wanted to get it. In fact some wrote for multiple copies from all over Australia. Koorong carried it also. The Book? The Blessed of Death, Illustrated in the lives of selected Christians from around the globe, who actually were excited at the prospect of dying! In this book I report the last words of these Christians as they waited for the moment when they would see Christ face to face. $8.00 - posted $10

My very first publication was published in 1967 and again by demand in 2000. It covered the unusual ministry of a maverick Victorian Methodist minister. He often greeted his ministerial brethren with, "How's your soul today?" He did it whimsically but it had a serious note to it. He was a great soul winner and city missioner. His life and work showed how much he cared for the souls and bodies of men.
For 24 years he was minister of Fitzroy Mission. This biography tells of the impact of his ministry on the city. His Saturday afternoon "drives" brought Christians together for fellowship and open air meetings. Crowds were invited back to the mission where the Gospel was preached and many should were saved! In the 50s Betts resigned from the Methodist church over its modernism. It was front page news in the Melbourne press. When he left the mission he founded Peoples Church in Kew which for many years was a great preaching centre.
